You could try https://www.greenmetropolis.com it is a site for selling and buying books. You get £3 for each book you sell. I gave it a try and sold one in about two weeks, its not as quick as ebay but there are no fees. Good luck.

There are loads of places you can sell your books like ebay, amazon marketplace, sellstudentbooks.co.uk and others. I highly recommend Amazon but you have to be careful as you can make a loss on bigger books, they only pay a fixed amount for postage I think its £2.75. Ebay maybe a good place although I've never sold a book there and I hate paying the fee's.

Is there not a notice board of some sort at the school where your daughters went to 6th form ? could you advertise them there?

I think it depends on the value of the book. If you think you can get a good price for them then Amazon may well be worthwhile even if you take a slight loss on postage costs, as books tend to go for more there than on ebay.

Whatever you do, it would be best to sell them quickly - they will quickly become out of date so best to get as good as you can this year than risk a new edition coming out next year and your books becoming worthless. Also after August the PO will have a new set of postal rates that will be priced according to size as well as weight of parcel, meaning your overheads will likely go up then.

I would try to sell them locally first, via the school or in the local press, but if they don't go quickly get them on either ebay or Amazon quite quickly.

  • eBay is best in my experience, far bigger marketplace than other places mentioned, more chances of it being viewed and item being sold.

but the fee's involved can bite. if your going to sell at a fixed price on ebay you can use http://www.ezaytools.co.uk/calculator.html to see how much you'll get.
  • Local freeads paper??

You've reminded me I have some books from when I was at college a couple of years ago - must put them in the paper tomorrow as well as doing my ebay stuff!

    studybookshop.com is another one
  • if you are willing to give them away to someone then try the freecylce network http://freecycle.org/. Items are advertised for free and you have the option of taking someone elses items for free. Range of things available

I was going to start a new thread when I noticed this one. My daughter has recently completed an English degree and has dozen of books that cost many hundreds of pounds new. Some of them have not been touched! Has anyone any suggestions to add to those already mentioned?

why don't people seem to realise that you don't buy books unless you're really really gonna use them? I've only bought books when I've had trouble getting stuff I really need from the library..
