advice re ticket

Hello just after some advice please I got a ticket on friday by the council parking wardens. I am wondering if I should appeal.
I parked in a space which had a 2 hour max limit. As I knew my son hospital appointment wasn't gonna last long. I paid the £5.10 for the 2 hours ( yes that much but it was near the hospital and I can't walk to far due to my spd )
when I got back to the car was given a ticket as it said I only had an hour on the ticket and was over the limit by 10 min. The amount it said i paid only said £5.05, I had put in £5.10 but hadn't notice that it didn't say £5.10. the money didn't drop down as i checked and there was no money there. Could i appeal stating a fault in the meter?
any advice is welcome could do without the fine as expecting 2 baby in few weeks.

Can you post the itcket up here so someone can check its legit.
minus all the personal details.
Failing that you have nothing to lose by appealing, make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
my scaner isn't working, sorry, do you mean the parking ticket or the payment ticket?
looking at the ticket it shows the money paid £5.05 and the time it expires which was only an hour. The fee for an hour is about £3.50 ish.
I know i should have checked the time but i put the full amount and knew it was only a 2hour max stay and would be back in time.
what are my chances on appeal? is it better to email or write with registered post?0 -
do you have a digital camera you could use, i think you have to do it through tinypic or something.
If someone else could come along and verify how to do it please.
ve never had a ticket in me life so i dont know your chances, but its obvious there was not an intention to just stay an hour otherwise you would have put in
£3.50 ish. On the face of it its been a little mstake on your part and were all guilty of not reading the samll print because of distration etc.
Like I say, you hve nothing to lose by appealing, good luck to you.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

If there was ever a case of a council needing to use common sense and compassion this is it. However councils are not known to use either of these so you would be well advised to take digital photo's of these on a macro setting, host them on tinypic the url on here. Remove personal details but leave all dates as they are important. Please copy both sides where there is printing.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

I have sent an email to the department that deals with the tickets appeal. I will send the copies of pay and display ticket, Hospital appointment letter and parkig ticket. any more advice welcome. I am unable to load up the information as my lap top is playing up.
I am writting with regard to a parking ticket that was received on
18.12.09 at Corporation Street, Birmingham City Centre
PCN number BM772391@@.
Vehicle Registration
Vehicle Make
Civil Enforcement Officer (CEO) BM881
Pay and Display ticket number 3426846
With regard to the above ticket I wish to place a formal appeal against the penalty charge notice for the following reasons.
I was attending a hospital appointment with my son at the Birmingham Children's Hospital with consultant Dr ###, regarding his lung condition. We attend appointments regular at the hospital and are aware of the time restrictions of the area where we parked. I was aware that the parking was limited to a two hour time limit and our appointment would be within the time limit for our return.
I placed the full amount for the two hour parking at the requested fee of £5.10, at 14.30. I checked the meter for any returned coins and placed the ticket on display in the above mentioned car. On our return to the car a penalty charge notice was placed on the car, at 15.41 stating we had over stayed the hour paid. The ticket on display was showing a fee payment for £5.05 a short fall of the fee of 5 pence. We had returned within the two hour period by at least 20 minutes.
I am of the view that I paid for the two hour period. I admit that I should have checked the ticket printed but as we regular use the area, for hospital appointments for our son, we are aware of the cost and the time limitation attached to the parking. I am of the view that the machine was at fault as I paid the full fee and the fee payment of £5.05 paid was on display for the enforcement officer to see. The payment for an hour parking and two hours are different in amount that it is obivous that an error had occured not a refusal of payment.
I able unable to scan the information in support of this appeal but will be sending it all by recorded post. The informaton that I have is a copy of hospital appoitment details, parking pay and display ticket and the fixed penalty charge notice.
I request that I am informed of a named person to send the infomation to and confirmation of your reciept of this email.
I sent this early today and will send the information in the morning. Any advice welome0 -
Does anyone know how long will it take to hear from them about the appeal? I did get a confirmation email to say they got mine but have not heard anything. Any advice is welcome0

I'll bump your question in case anyone can answer.
FWIW, I think you have only in fact INformally appealed at the moment (even though you worded your letter to show you considered it a FORMAL appeal).
A formal appeal is I think, only the NEXT stage, if and when they send you a Notice to Owner. Wait and see if that comes first.
If any advice here is wrong please correct me, anyone with more experience of PCNs!PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

It varies wildly from Council to Council, according to each Council's policy. There is no set period by which they must reply or, indeed, at all to an informal appealjimjams_mommy wrote: »Does anyone know how long will it take to hear from them about the appeal?
Once you have formally appealed at the NTO stage, they must reply within 56 days0 -
Result!!!!
I just come back from the hospital today to find a letter from BCC to say sorry and they have Cancelled the parking ticket!!!!!
Would just like to say a big thank you for this forum and the advice given, I would have just paid the ticket and thought bad luck.
