Hi
I wonder if someone can elp with a problem i am having. I Have a C5 2003 plate with 167K Milage.
The car drive great except fot 1 probelms.
Recetly i added some Anti-freeze to the coolent system and even since the Coolent system seems to be building up too much pressue and it is leaking out of the Expansion Tank. There are bubbles when this happens.
It only happens when i go for a drive on te motorway, local driving is fine and no water loss is happening. Today as a test i revved the engine for about 10 minutes at about 3500 revs and nothing all is fine.
I think it is worth menstioning that i have replaced the Expansion Tank Cap.
Also the Radiator is not heating up fully the left had side seems to stay cold, and seems to have bubbles in it when i tried to bleed it.
Could i have caused a Airlock in the system because i openined the radiator cap whilst the system was pressuried and hot. Quite alot of water escaped when i opened the expansion tank cap to add the coolent because the system was hot and pressurised.
I have since tried bleading the system - but this as seemed to made no differance.
Has anyone had this problem ??
Also there is no oil in the water and no water in oil. Both are clean.

It is quite possible that it is an airlock. When you filled it, you should have made sure the heater control was set to hot. On most cars, there's usually an air bleed screw valve on one hose as well which you undo and keep filling until no more bubbles come out.
HOWEVER, you say that when you decided to do this, the car was hot and chucked out a lot of water. I assume the coolant you replaced this with (antifreeze and/or water) was cold? If so, its quite possible you've split the radiator or cracked the head/block. A cracked head/block or blown headgasket doesn't necessarily result in oil mixing with water.
Take it to a garage and get them to do a pressure test and a sniff test.0 -
ummm...i am wondering the same thing. that i have cuased some serious damage to the head or radiator.
The strainge thing is that the radiator is not getting hot properly. on one side and seems to be filled with bubbles.
The ting that confuses me is that if i ad cracked the head and there is exhaust gases getting into the system then this should happen regaldless of me driving locally or on the motorway.
But after the 10 minute test today at 3500 rpm it was fine no pressure no bubbles... But yet whe i take it on the motorway i seem to get them.
Your right i do need a sniffer test, and i think i will get that done by the AA, might as well call them out atleast once in the year..i did pay them over a 100 for membership and have never called them aout yet.
Atlease, that way i will know for sure if i have damaged the darn thing.:jTo be Young AGAIN!!!!...what a wonderfull thought!!!!!:rolleyes:0
