where do you park? If it is indeed low on fuel, may have looked ok coming home, but do you park on a slope?
you'll see me a lot on the Volvo forums!0 -
Lol. I said that in my first post.
Aye I know, but I'm so full of myself I dismissed than one out of hand  but there ya go you might well be right after all !
Those forums are soooo interesting.
Found loads of threads about weird noises under the car. So that's why it has weird twanging noises at low speeds and when it's cold ! I asked the garage about the very same last time I was in getting bulbs ... and they were all very suitably vague haha. Looks like every one gets these noises at some stage, some folk just live with it like me, others replace bits here & there with varying degrees of success.
Great forum. Might actually join it ! Looks fun !
I'd actually go and leg it to the petrol station right now were it not too cold out ... also scared to footer about with the car in case I set the alarm off or summat, don't want to wake the kids up, bit of a Jonah me.
Where do I park ? On the flat, although have to come uphill and downhill to get here. One thing I've noticed with the gauge is that when it's full it takes ages to get to the halfway point ... but from halfway downwards it depreciates rapidly ... always wondered about that one (and never thought much about it until tonight !)
Listen cheers for all your suggestions, appreciated :beer:0 -
It's not the battery.... yet... it will be if you keep trying and failing to start it.
As said it sounds like a fuel problem, if you're on a steep slope facing up hill that could be the problem. If you're on the flat open the fuel tank and shake the car up and down see if you can hear some fuel inside. Chuck 5 litres in and see what happens.0 -

I thought all fuel gauges did that

Dear Brothers
I'm here on bended knee, seeking your forgiveness.
The AA lad came out. And within, mm, let's see, 10 seconds had diagnosed that I'd run out of petrol. Says they're getting lots of people with dicky fuel gauges this week. So he stuck a fivers worth in, I went straight up the garage and put in 35 quids worth.
Now. By my logic 35 quid is about 30 litres, just less than half a tank. But the gauge is showing 3/4 tank full ... go figure !
So. Beware. The weather is causing gremlins in the fuel department.
Anyways. Muchos apologies for wasting your time. And kudos to those who diagnosed my problem so accurately and at long distance.
I am, as the AA boy said, a total fa**y ! That I admit !0 -
