in Credit cards
I have had a Bank of Scotland credit card for years and have now received a letter saying as it hasn't been used for a few months it will be cancelled and cannot be reopened !
Since when was it compulsory to use your credit card?

Since they discovered they aren't making any money from you I presume.
Why should they maintain an unused account on their systems?
It will be in the T&Cs that they can close the account at any time by giving you an amount of notice in writing.
Why not just use it occasionally when you would otherwise pay by debit card? If you pay it off every month when you do so, it will cost you nothing.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

This is what I do but obviously not to their satisfaction as they gain no interest from me.travelover0

You do not state what your credit rating is like but it is not uncommon for card companies
to write to say that if you do not use it within a certain timescale it will be cancelled.
Perhaps you should check your files with the CRA's.0 -
MBNA have also started to do this. Reason being it costs money to maintain the account - maybe not much, but multiply this by a few thousand other accounts not being used for a long time and the costs build up.No Longer works for MBNA as of August 2010 - redundancy money will be nice though.

Well if you're not making them a profit why wouldn't they close the account? A credit card is a business agreement that they need to make a profit from, not us folks simply getting credit that we have a god-given right to.If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything0
