  • If the account is closed, how can the available limit be 0 pounds? Did you receive the letter from the Card provider stating that your account has been closed and you have to cut the card into pieces?

Do a search on "continuous payment authourity"
In fact the thread preceding yours covers the same subject.

MBNA acted correctly in making the payment.

    From your MBNA T&Cs...

10b ...you must...make alternative arrangements with payees of any subscriptions and regular payments paid from your account...<snip>...
10e If, after this agreement has ended, further amounts become due to us, such as...subscriptions, regular payments that you have not stopped...you will still be personally liable to pay these amounts and we reserve the right to apply interest on such amounts in accordance with the terms of this agreement which shall be deemed to continue for that purpose, until the balance is paid in full.

In my experience, you're also made aware of this during the closure call and in any closure confirmation letter sent by the card provider.

Chalk it up to experience. You only get caught out once by this.

Unless you have cancelled any CPAs (continuous payment authorities) such as Sky, then the charge is valid.

When you closed the account, you would have got a letter telling you to cancel all such charges.

What is the £12.50 for ? Should Sky have billed you ?

MBNA are legally bound to pay. You entered a contract with Sky giving them the payment details, they took the payment.
No Longer works for MBNA as of August 2010 - redundancy money will be nice though.
