Hello,
Desperately need help, please, as the laptop is driving me mad!!!!!
Background - I have a very old (probably 10 years old) freeserve email address that I love and want to keep. This has stopped working today so I need to dial in to reactivate the account. I got my old laptop out and it would not connect via dial up.
So my idea was to go to the orange website on my 'new' laptop and download/retrieve the orange settings for dial up so that I could activate my email account.
I have logged in and got to the install screen. When I click install it does not give me the run or open option it just wants me to save it or cancel. It will not work if I save it to the desktop. I have tried this in Firefox and IE.
I assume it is the security settings that is preventing the correct box (i.e. the one with the run button) being displayed. Please can someone tell me if I can override the security features long enough to get this file to download/install.
I would be very grateful for the help as I really, really don't want to lose my old email account as I am very attached to it.
Here's hoping
Kind Regards
Kailua

have you tried disabling the security whilst trying to install this, or pressing crtl whilst you try and download it ?Hello,

Thanks for your message/help.
Just tried pressing crtl but it brings up the same save box. As for disabling the security - would it be the firefox or IE.security settings, windows security or kaspersky?
Off to bed, I think and I'll tackle it again in the morning. Thanks for your help.£279/£2016 (13.8%)

On your old laptop, make sure you have the current dial-up number:
If you post a link to what you are trying to download, then it will make it easier to help you.All Dial-up Pay As You Go numbers start with the prefix 0844 or 0845 and are charged from 1p per minute.
The Dial-up Pay As You Go numbers are: 0844 058 7000/0844 056 4000 or 0845 079 66990 -
Thanks for the messages.
An update. It looks like by just trying to restore the account - I can get now access to my emails as normal - so that is a relief. I hooked the old laptop back up to the dial up and it allowed me to dial in okay - and I kept it connected for 5 minutes so hopefully that has reactivated the account for the next x number of days (although it would not bring up any internet pages but it did show that it was connected?)
So as a temporary measure that is great but for long term I would still like to get the software on the 'new' laptop so that I can dial up every couple of months without too much hassle. (the old laptop does not have any virus software so I don't really like to connect it but that is a whole other issue as I would like to get that computer safely connected to the internet so that the children can use it)
I don't think I can post a link as it is from the member centre of orange and I can't get to the link. I suppose the thing that would help would be to know - nowadays when you click on any install button does it automatically give the save option and no longer give the direct run button? I have tried it on both an XP laptop and a Vista laptop using both Firefox and IE.

Account Retrieval
step 1 - important instructions- We recommend that you print out out these instructions before continuing.
- Make sure all other programs are closed
step 2 - installation
During installation, always select 'Open' or 'Run this program from its current location'. Do not select 'Save' or 'Cancel'.- When prompted, select 'OK' to install your Internet settings
- Click on the 'Install' button below. Installation should take less than a minute.
When the installation is successful, reconnect to the Internet by clicking on one of the following icons on your desktop:£279/£2016 (13.8%)

I have a very old copy of opera on the laptop which I have never used - just tried to use it now and it won't even connect to the internet.
just tried IE again and it comes up with the window but in front of the open button window it has another window titled File Download - Security Warning - with opens to find, save or cancel and you can't get by this window. I don't know how to turn it off. I set all the security settings in IE to low but it still brings up that File Download - Security Warning£279/£2016 (13.8%)
