Replacing my Old Boiler Quotes - Is this Fair

Plumber B & C quoted for a powerflush in addition to the main price. The price was identical for the powerflush. The difference in the main quotes was the area I was trying to drill into. Interesting point about the balancing. I'll enquire about that.

I need a new boiler and have been quoted as follows by British Gas. Can anyone give advice as to whether this is 1. a fair price and 2. all work entirely necessary?

the price is way to high you should be able to get at least a 3rd off that price from a local guy ...bg quote for meb even when it doesnt need it a lot of the time ..what they say is it will be removed if the elec says its not needed ....

if i was going to fit a combi in my house i would fit a Valliant ..no question about it

I had a guy from British gas give me two quotes today one for a new combi and one for a new replacement gas boiler.

The combi was £3900 AFTER the £400 scrappage discount !!!

Central heating boiler replacement was £3237 after the £400 scrappage...

I'm no boiler expert but this to me seems extremely high and I only live in a one bed flat. The one he recommended was a Glowworm Flexicom 15hx High efficiency boiler. I was a bit sus about this massive quote so I visited Glowworm's website and the British Gas man has quoted me for a boiler that is sutable for a 3 bed semi not a one bed flat!!

Needless to say I will NOT be using British gas, but if anyone has any advice regarding quotes, services, or can recommend anyone in the essex area, that would be great!

Hi can anyone tell me?
does a boiler have to be less than %70 to qualify for the scrappage scheme or %70 or under .I have a Ferroli 77 ff which is over ten years old and has a permenant pilot light .The advice line say it is borderline but does not count .. thanks

today i checked my gmail account and i read a new alert that was quite worrying. The large gas companies advertise all these discounts then issue huge quotes so they can then deduct things like scrappage scheme and warmfront off them. I found out that even finance loadings are passed onto the customer. surely someone should go on the training courses with a camera to show these companies up for what they realy are. Did you no that any gas safe registered gas engineer has the same qualifications as any engineer from BG.

Choosing a local plumber will save you huge amounts, when they come they can assess things and give you a quote from an installers perspective. BG and other big boys send sales agents who have gone on a training course to get a quote issued. they may not see things from an installers perspective. hence the reason why quotes are inflated, if they have got something wrong in the cost then the increased price will allow for the errorr. Not very thorough if you ask me but hey , everyones can have their opinioun. I got a statement
