Wing mirrors damaged by vandals...

Hi,

So I go to my car this morning to find the drivers side wing mirror glass smashed and the passengers side hanging off by the metal wires (glass not smashed).

I do not have the time to source parts and try to fix it myself therefore I'm going to to have to take it to a garage to get it fixed, any idea on how much its gonna cost to get fixed?

I want a general idea so I don't get ripped off...

The wing mirrors aren't electric and the car is an old banger - rover 414si R reg.

Shows the festive spirit doesn't it?!

Thanks

My previous solution to losing any part of a banger is:

    1. Local scrapyard
    2. Ebay

Both normally cost peanuts as long as you can collect (if it is ebay).

    Good luck hunting

please see original post - I don't have time to go round scrapyards and can't wait for postage especially as it is slower this time of the year...

Looking for people's views on how much a garage would charge?

    thanks
  • Well, not being able to go to a scrapyard and get them to give you one over the counter is likely to cost you £30 or more. Scrapyards nowadays are not the "clamber over that pile over there and take it off yourself" places they used to be as that was outlawed some years ago. Most are now like shops. All you've got to do is to ring them, ask them to get one out for you then go and collect. Fitting is a 20 minute job at the most.

I got quoted £80 when some so-and-so nicked mine off a K reg Rover a good few years ago now (guess that's why they nicked it) from a main dealer if that's any guide.

Went to scrapyard cos I was not paying that much!

My Honda Civic wing mirror was vandalised . they are electric but all i needed was the casing and a new mirror

Quote when i walked into Honda [STRIKE]Stealership[/STRIKE] dealership .. £164 + cost of a glass :mad::mad::mad:. i laughed in their face and walked right out .

price attempting to source from scrap merchants =£40 per wingmirror .

Cost of buying them from someone scrapping a model of my car on Ebay = £50 for 2 complete wing mirrors ( including glass and motors ) . i have a rare model so i had to wait a while to find someone selling some , but after a few weeks someone came along . i did a temp repair in the meantime for £10 .
Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:

You can get the glass, for the drivers side, off the shelf at Halfords, no more than £15.

This happened to me last year. I have a Renault Clio, with electric heated mirrors, and to get the drivers mirror fixed cost me £35, parts and labour (a local independent garage). I had to wait overnight for the garage to get the glass in though.

Hope you can get it sported- why people think this is fun to do is beyond me!

not exactly money saving is it just throwing it at the garage for them to fix it. You are going to pay atleast 3 to 4 times the cost by getting them to do it rather than yourself, mainly because you will pay over the odds for the mirrors as they will just use there own network of suppliers to source the part which is normally double to a scrapyard atleast then your going to be charged an hours labour £40 + VAT atleast.

Go halfords get the glass for the one thats broken and duct tape the other whilst you wait for new ones to be delivered
Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.
