i am selling clothes on ebay some second hand and some i bought myself and never have worn, keep gaining weight before i get a chance to wear them. anyhow the average price i ask for an item would be about £6-£8 for new items and half that for second hand. i just wondered how many times would you re-list an item like that before it being not financially feasible. when do you give up?

Why not open an Ebay shop up.... That way you can than put items you have listed a couple of items in Auctions already as your Shop Inventory (3p listing fee + 5p gallery fee only for 30 days)...
You can than have a mix of newer or popular items inthe 5, 7, 10 auctions, while the rest in your ebay shop.0 -
I don't like paying listing fees so I often list only once and then relist once or twice again on cheap listing days. If it doesn't go then I either take it down to 99p and take a big loss, or donate it to a charity shop.
New clothes go for a fraction of the actual shop price and with shops like Matalan Primark and TK Maxx around people are now reluctant to spend more than a couple of pounds on new items as they can buy brand new without the post and packing for that in the High Street. Second hand clothes struggle to get more than the 99p unless they are special, like very goth or with a currently fashionable designer label.
A few years back I got hold of a whole load of Miss Sixty Jeans with a label saying £68, I htought I was going to make a killing. MOst ended up selling at opening bids of £4.99 and some I had to off load at £2 when I was fed up of paying listing fees.

Hi there
I buy quite alot of clothes from Ebay - high street names like Next, Dorothy Perkins etc (not designer names) and i have to say that I don't think you will get many bids on stuff you advertise for £6-£8, even brand new. Try listing the second hand stuff at 99p and the new stuff for £2.50 and I think you'll be shifting them quicker.
Best of luck0 -
Got to agree it will be difficult selling clothing brand new or old on ebay unless your selling a really popular item. I tried it a few times but didnt get many sales and have had to reduce prices alot before i could get rid of my stock. I would only relist it once as that gives you a good indication if it will sell or not and then as soo mentioned wait for a cheap listing day if are prepared to wait.0

Unless they are brand new with tags AND currently available in the shops I can't see you getting any interest with those starting prices. Try listing for much lower and perhaps put your postage prices up a tiny bit to see if that helps. I've just got some stuff on second listing, if it doesn't go this time then it's in to the charity bag and I've probably just broke even on listing fees and things I sold, I'm learning from experience!0

I usually list clothes starting at 99p. If they dont sell I dont relist them because lets face it, if they didnt sell at 99p theyre not going to are they?2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

I think you won't get much interest for those starting prices.
Plus size clothes seem to get a couple of bids on (starting at 99p tho!)

thanks, this looks like it could work but have no knowledge of ebay shop. will take a look and see what i can find out, thanks again0 -
I agree that your starting price is too high.
Start at 99p and see how you go.
If you have several similar garments who not sell them as a set. Like three pairs of size 14 jeans starting at 99p, just make sure the postage is not too high.
There's a lady selling a gorgeous red leather jacket that I have been watching for at least six months.
Everytime she lists it she starts at £30, it never sells and she continues to relist it at that price.
You think she would know by now.
If she started it at £5 she'd generate much more interest and may even reach her £30 target.
She puzzles me, she has a few 2nd hand bits that she constantly relists but with reserves!!
Needless to say they don't sell and she continously relists them!!
Daft!Third time lucky on WW I hope :j
