4 years bonus protected - making a claim 50:50 would affect me?

Hi, i have 4 years bonus protection on my car and recently had an accident with a Foreign truck on a A-road roundabout. Even though its not my fault and the police came through to provide incident number to claim insurance.

When i made this claim to the insurance company esure, i was told that the third party has agreed for 50:50 and insurance solicitors want to go head with it. i don't want to agree for that and want to go legal. the question is, as this involves a foreign driver(estonia), they said it will take 12-18 months for a legal case, so if i go for 50/50, will that affect my bonus protection? the insurance has sent me a letter saying that my renewal would not change as i have 4 years protection and no way affect me. is that correct? please advise

You will have one strike against your continued protection (your protected no claims loses its protection after a certain number of claims within a stated time frame (eg 2 claims in 3 years) - check your policy for the specific details.

Separately from the NCD position, a fault claim (or no fault claim) could well mean your premium gets loaded at renewal.

Thanks Quentin, i will check the policy documents and see what the number is...the other question is, how long will be the claim record on my insurance? does it not wipe off after some years of no claim (like 6 years on our credit report )

It will be discounted eventually - different insurers have differing history periods they want to know about - usually 3 and up to 5 years.
