controls for heating dont seem to work-HELP!

Options
Hi all,
I moved into my home around a year ago and have not really been able to control heating...and it is driving me crazy!
it is a Thorn EMI boiler and control panel with 2 options for water only or water and heating, anyway the timeclock control panel, althoguh it powers up ok and dispalys the correct time and i can set the times etc it, doesn't control the heating. in order to control heating we have to turn up/down room thermostat in living room.

when we do this the heating comes on for a good hour or so and will go off and an on as expected so i know the boieler is working and the hot water is fine too it just would be nice to time the heating for coming on for getting up in morn/ coming in from work etc.
it is so frustrating esp if we forget to turn thermostat down before bed and you hear it click on at 3am...grrr.

i have had plumber and a few others look at it and they said to replace time clock is tricky as not many do it and can cost a pretty penny so i wondered if there is anything i can do - it is as if the timeclock and thermostat are not talknig to each other or am i over simplifiying??

any advice / help on what i can do before having to shell out the big bucks would be greatly appreciated.

    1. What boiler model?

    2. What programmer/timer make/model?

    Cheers

You shouldn't be turning the stat down before you go to bed!

There is no simple solution to this that is both practical and economic for an old gravity HW and pumped CH system like this.

There is more info here on the bits you need, but it is a bit of a compromise.
  • You'll find a lot of plumbers and electricians don't like heating system alterations.... find a good fault finding sparky (like me).
I enjoy a challenge and feel great when the systems works......
Sounds like a floor monted boiler, front top mounted clear cover with timer unit on left hand side..... done a couple if thats the one
