Ebay selling tips

Bought a few items over the last year on Ebay and have a good rating, no bad deals thank god.

Anyhow wife wants to sell some items of used clothig, obviosuly clean, and very good condition.

I have a Pay pay account which I use to buy things. Also digital camera to enclose pictures of items to sell.

Can anyone give me any tips/advice on getting good customers?

Just wondered whats the listing fees that Ebay charge is it stnadrad charge or how much the item sells?

What do Paypal charge on items via there system?

Any ideas how you workd out postage costs?

Also any other advice would be apprepiated. Thanks

  • Hi

Ebay list all the selling fees on the website.

You pay a fee to list the item. The fee depends on how much you start the auction at and if you include photos.

When the auction ends you then pay a fee on the final selling price. This cost of this again depends on how much the price is.

Paypal make a charge for receiving money, again this is listed on there site.

With regards to selling - make sure that the picture included in the listing is clear. Provide a good full description of the item. Also I normally seem to get a higher selling price if my auctions end on a Sunday night as more people are bidding.

One way to save costs is to keep and eye out for 5p listing days, unfortuantly you have just missed one last thursday but they soon come around. This way you can keep your lisiting fees lower.

Postage fees - weigh item on kitchen scales. Check out the cost of postage on Royalmail.com then I add the cost of my envelopes and a little to cover petrol as I have to drive to the post office.

Hope this helps a bit. If you look around the ebay site they give you tips about lisiting items and descriptions etc.

    Good Luck

Second hand clothes can be a bit hit and miss so check out the completed auctions for an idea whether the market is good or bad at the moment. Also be entirely honest about the condition of the item so you don't get people wanting refunds.

Childrens clothes sell well as do things that can be considered 'goth'.

A couple of years ago I sold some nearly new childrens t shirts for around £3 which i was quite pleased with. Yet at the end of last year I tried selling some virtually new Marks and Spencers skirts and a couple of short evening dresses and even with a starting price of 99p got no bids at all.

Finally, make sure you mention (if it's true) that the items come from a smoke and pet free home. People will complain if they get an item of clothing that has come from a home where someone smokes.
