water supply pipe

It looks like the house I hope to buy may have a leak in the water supply pipe! The pipe is shared between 4 houses and the deeds stipulate that the cost is shared between all 4 houses. Two of the houses are owned by a housing association so its likely that the water board will do the work and bill each house.
Can anyone estimate what the cost would be? The pipe runs underneath grass, must be about 8m in length from the main pipe to where the leak may be maximum.
I just need to know the likely charge so we can come to some arrangement with the seller. The problem is I don't want to hold up the house sale for this and it could take months for the water board to find the exact spot of the leak and arrange to fix it.

if it were me i would phone the water company and explain and just ask what they think the cost maybe. if it is the old pipes they may replace them as they did for me but only to the boundary of my property and the rest was up to me.0
