National Grid make the figures available online:

    http://www.nationalgrid.com/uk/ukgasdata/services/calval/calval.asp

With the disclaimer that they might not be accurate (I've noticed wrong entries get corrected on there before now).

If you take down the figures for your region for the days covered by your bill and average them, it should come to the same value as used on your bill. It has been in agreement for me with 3 different suppliers so far anyway.

I notice they dont seem to publish data on moisture content in distributed gas.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

The calorific value will take this into account.

Only if the moisture were controlled within tight limits. Outside of that, they could well be selling you molecular H20 as well as your CH4. I guess we will have to trust them?

They dry the gas. I doubt there's significant moisture content. If there were, it would condense where it experienced a pressure drop or temperature drop in the distribution system and I can see how that would be A Bad Thing.
