I suspect the OP won't have a lot of choice anyway.......

OP, to be brutally honest you don't stand a chance of getting either an Amex card of any sort of charge card. And with your recent history that's probably for the best ! :)
  • The company want me to have a card for charging expenses which I will then seek reimbursement for at the end of each month. They do not supply a credit card.

I can easily get to the £3k - spending £300-350 every month on expenses.

Yeah, and don't forget that there are sometimes delays in getting expenses approved and paid out. Another forum member recently waited about 3-4 weeks for her expenses as the receipts were delayed by the postal strike.

If it was coming from your own cash in another account, and they didn't pay. Then your employer would simply have to find another way to fund your future expenses until the issue was resolved.

If you're company wants you to have a card then they should supply you with one.

Do NOT get one on their request. It is their responsibility, not yours.

  • Been down that road and they will not supply a card. All has to be done off my own back which is a bit poor really!

They simply cannot insist that you get a card for company expenses.

If they want you to operate in this manner they should supply one.

Don't back down on this. They can't have it both ways.

Maybe so but they can't insist on a separate card. I put all my expenses on my normal credit cards and it doesn't prove to be a problem, and that can be anything up to £2000 a month.

As long as you disciplined with keeping the receipts in order it should be fine.
  • HR function is very poor and "they" are a multinational investment bank which ultimately own my little division.

All the directors have to supply their own cards and get re-imbursed via expenses. No arguement against this or might be shown the door.

In which case I would get legal advice on this.

They are wrong to insist on you getting a personal card for company expenses. And certainly could not fire for you not complying with their wishes in this respect.

Well, they could, but you could take them to court for it and win.

In that case, the second account is ideal for you. Basically, it's to help manage your money for expenses isn't it? You don't need (wouldn't likely get) a charge card anyway, a second credit card could end in disaster for reasons Euronorris has spelt out and work won't give you a company card.

I think the decision is fairly straight forward TBH
