If you fancy joining a women group along similar lines try ladies circle. It's an international organisation, the main difference it is only open to women under 45 years, so at 45 you can retire and join WI or similar.

I've been a member for 12 years and have done some great things and made some great friends all over england. We usually meet once a month and do the type of things women under 45 like to do. Meals, theatre, spa week ends, drinking lots of wine and meeting others. But have also done lots of more things you might never try on your own, go karting, skiing, fork lift truck driving, making jewellery and we also like to do some fund raising for the local community so help out in the food tent at bonfire night and help at the race for life.
Last year I attended as a delegate our internationa conference In Iceland and had a great time and it issomething I will never forget. You can even view our album of the trip. http://www.photobox.co.uk/album/1766046
So have a look at the web site and ring up the mebership line to see if there is one near you.0 -
Hi everyone
This is my very first post, I've been lurking for a few weeks now, enjoying reading the various threads. You all seem to be very friendly so I've decided to join in.
I am a very active member of our local WI and I'm involved at federation level
with membership and home economics. Anyone thinking about joining, do it.
We have a great deal of fun. Each institute is different so try 2 or 3 before
joining to see which one suits you best.
Also I'm a producer for Country Markets, producing baked goods and savouries
which we sell at our local farmers market twice a month. Our customers range from teenagers buying chocolate concrete to OAPs buying a luxury homemade ready meal (the ultimate in takeaways). We also sell crafts, plants, and preserves. Check out the website there is a link above (can't do them yet myself, perhaps I need a WI computer course!!). Maybe you would like to think about joining us and becoming a marketeer.
There is something for everyone in the WI, regardless of age. So go ahead and join, while you're thinking about it you could be missing something exciting!!!!
Sorry we don't have MEN. although they could come in handy when we have to move furniture and chairs!!!
