My Mum joined the WI a while back, I shall ask her if they know anything about the packaging campaign. I think I'm a bit young to join, I'm only 310

Join - it's nothing to do with age and most groups need stirring up a little by young uns
Problem is that most of the events are organised during the day when we're at work .... grrr  There's a suggestion - if your local group meets during working hours, tell em that this precludes younger members from joining due to having to work to pay the mortgage!Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0 -
I'll have a word with my Mum. Could be interesting though if I join,me and her at the meetings0

They were on the lunchtime news. Didn't see them on the evening news. What if the hokey cokey is what it's all about? :eek:Official "Bring back Mark and Lard NOW! or else (please)" Member 160 -
I know, good on 'em eh?
Gloucestershire WI made it on to the front page of our local paper for challenging Somerfield about the packaging issue – what a coup!
And there was I thinking that concern for our planet was something restricted to us young(ish) 'uns...
I'm so glad they've proved me wrong!

There are seven WIs in this area but only one meets during the day, the rest are all evening groups.I started going to a daytime group as found it easier to fit in with my family.
The WI did a survey fairly recently and found that only about 4% of members were under 50. I'm the "baby" in our WI but really enjoy the meetings and trips out.0 -
Thanks to the advice in this thread I was spurred on to find out about local WI groups and I went to my first meeting this week. Yes the average age is quite advanced but everyone was really friendly and welcoming and I had a great time. If you can go with an open mind then it's well woth going - I shall definitely be joining. It was a cheap night out, I had lots of fun, made new friends and a very valuable network for rural areas in particular.

Spotted you on another forum LOL! I'd love to join but my nearest group appears to be in Orpington (miles away) Perhaps they think us Londoners are not WI material LOL!
