It has been so cold lately, my central heating thermostat does not over 18 centigrades and then cut off. I have been advised to have a powerflush by BG, could this be the problem? Thanks

Could be or it could be a faulty:
Port Valve
Pump
Boiler Control
Stat
Rad valve
Airlock
Installation
or a combination of all the above & others I have missed.
The professoinals that come on here will first need to know what type of system you have..
The boiler make & model should give them a start.Not Again0 -

Apart from whats already been asked, so no point in repeating it, there had to be something in the thought process between "its not warm enogh in here" and "you need a powerflush". Did he/she give you no clues at all how they came to that recommendation?

I think you'll find that "you need a powerflush" is the new "bleed all the radiators" as a catch-all for 99% of heating problems. Oh, and it's 800 quid more expensive too.0
