Ah - your shares are with Selftrade - thats why you would not have received a letter.

Generally speaking (with very few exceptions), if you do not hold the share certificate yourself or via a company registrar's own special 'shareholder account' your details won't appear on a companies share register and so you won't get any communications at all directly from the company

    Hi Sunil,

Thanks for that info - that solves that little mystery then! It's ok, I'm not too bothered about the DRIP scheme as, like I say, the dividend will be less than £40 anyway. It was just a bit confusing that everyone were getting these letters and I wasn't!

Standard Life is a bit unusual re: the bonus shares, though as long as you filled in the 'Special Declaration' when moving your shares to Selftrade, you will be ok in that respect and will be able to claim the in July..

Yes I already knew about that and filled in the Special Declaration at the time I deposited my certificate so I shouldn't have any problems with that - I only put the shares in Selftrade for the incentives involved anyway so I wouldn't have done that if it meant losing the bonus shares.

    Regards

    Hello people!

Thanks for the information about the DRIP scheme. Too late to fret now, anyway:rolleyes: but does the "no direct communication" thing apply if the shares are held with Compushare, please? And will it affect the bonus share issue? (Apologies if that is a ridiculously daft question - still learning about this share-holding lark!)

If the shares are in the default Computershare account you should still get the company communications and will get the bonus shares automatically.

Thanks, Sunil. Wonder why I haven't received the letter, then? Still, as long as I get the bonus shares I'm not too worried - just puzzled!

OK- mystery solved! DH had very helpfully filed unopened letter in a totally irrelevant place aargh!

    Closed even better at 345.25p.

Trevor Matthews, the head of assurance business at Standard Life, told a conference that the life insurance industry would consolidate because of increased competition and pressure on profit margins.

Maybe a takeover bid sometime soon?

And there was I about to bail out now! Might just hang on for a bit (at least until the dividend's paid out) to see what occurs...

Closed today at 349.50p - after (very briefly) reaching £3.50

(thats a 60% paper profit for those shareholders who brought discounted shares at flotation for 218.5p and taking no account of the bonus shares)

Who'd have believed it in July 2006?

The distinguished Sunday Times Money editor suggested holding off purchases until the price had dipped below £2.
