Very/HDNL Lost Laptop

Can anyone help?

My husband ordered a new laptop from Very (formerly Littlewoods Direct) on 4th December and was told to expect delivery on 9th December.

9th December came and went, no sign of the laptop, checked his Very account and the delivery date had been pushed back to 14th December. This also came and went with no sign of the laptop.

He rang Very who said it's with HDNL was there any possibility you were out? I was in all day expecting another parcel and HDNL didn't turn up that day, in any case they said we'll rearrange delivery for 16th. I was in anyway, so waited in all day, again no HDNL, range ery again 'oh it has only just been dispatched, it's next day delivery so it will reach you on 17th Dec'

Again waited in all day for HDNL and they didn't arrive. Phoned Very who gave us a number for HDNL, as they insisted it has been dispatched from them and HDNL were in receipt of the laptop.

Husband called HDNL, they didn't have any records of any parcel coming to our address and told us to go back to Very.

Very insist it's with HDNL and HDNL say they've not got any record of a parcel coming to our address.

Husband getting a bit stressed now as he paid for the laptop on his debit card, it is his Christmas and birthday present from me and his parents and no-one seems to know where it has gone.

Very said they can't refund him until 28 days after the expected delivery date, which means effectively, he can't go to buy another. He bought it from Very because he had a £50 off voucher code and it was the cheapest place to buy the laptop.

Obviously he feels he ordered it in good time for Christmas and pointed out that when he ordered the laptop, on their websit, it said it was in stock, then the delivery dates were pushed back, probably indicating that in fact it wasn't in stock at all but they won't admit this and blame HDNL but HDNL say they've no parcel for us at all, so who do we believe?

He wants to cancel now as he believes he has a better chance of paying a little more and going to a shop and leaving with a laptop in hand rather than trying to save some money yet never getting the item.

Can anyone advise on his rights, he paid on Natwest Visa debit.

  • The problem is going to likely be with HDN, i have had nothing but problems with them this year, sadly to say no item has arrived undamaged. HDL rant thread -http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=2070873

If it is on a debit card, you can just pull the funds back, it has to be done by very.co.uk. I would get in touch with very as they are the retailer and ultimately liable for this. Sadly when i rang play over the damaged order (thansk HDN) i was told the only way to get it by Christmas now was to reorder and wait for a refund on the damaged item. No response from play so im recovered funds by force with the credit card.

There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies
