Conservatory Heater Gas or Electricity

Hi, I need to heat a Conservatory (central heating extension is not an option at the moment :( )

I have a Small Fan 2kWh Heater those are suppose to be very expensive to run

I'm considering to buy a flogas kit like this

www_flogas_co_uk/buy-online/portable-heaters/superser-f150-winter-heater-package/

For £94.94

I did some maths  Please someone tell me if I'm wrong

The Gas Price is about: (Info taken from calor_co_uk Butane Cylinders)

9.9 kW (0.7kg/h) 15kg £25.50 about 0.11p per kWh
5 kW (0.42 kg/h) 4.5kg £13.25 about 0.24p per KWh

My last electricity Bill I think (Not 100% Sure) they charged me around 10p per kWh

So Looks like the Small Fan Heater is not that bad at the end? :T or

There is something wrong in My Maths
Or the gas thing Heat a lot Faster than the electric one :shhh:

Please want to hear some inputs Thanks

A calor gas heater in a conservatory will be a condensation nightmare and they smell disgusting too. I'd go for the fan heater even if it works out more expensive.

I use a cheap Delonghi convector in my conservatory. It came with wall brackets heats up quickly and is silent in operation.

That gum you like is coming back in style.
  • Your running cost numbers look ok; a surprise that the gas is so expensive in those small bottles!
If you have the 2kw fan heater, try it and see if it provides enough heat.
But, you could also try and get a heating requirement calc done to see what is actually needed.
If you buy a new electrical heater, having a 3kw model with thermostatic control may give you faster warm up, and the same constant running cost as 2kw

If you are going to be heating the conservatory for a large part of the year then you might want to consider air-conditioning units - most of these have a heating function which runs the heat pump in reverse, pumping heat from outside into the conservatory.

The benefit of this is reduced electricity usage - performance differs between units but many have CoP of around 3 eg. for every 1kwh of electricity you put in they produce 3 kwh of heat. So in effect using 1/3 of the electricity of a standard heater.

Obviously the up-front cost is higher so it depends on how frequently you're going to be using/heating the conservatory whether it pays back over a cheap electric heater.
