cavity wall insulation

Options
My husband and I are both over 70 and we had a visit from Solarwall insulation of York, we were told that we were eligible for free cavity wall insulation, so we agreed to a surveyor calling. he came today and told us that we would have to pay £96 towards the cost as our 3 bed detatched house was over the size that the government would pay the full grant for. I cannot find any information on the internet to confirm this...has anyone heard of this?

  • Hi there

The Energy Saving Trust on 0800 512 012 should be able to help you. There are lots and lots of firms offering these cheap loft and cavity wall insulation deals. Some people get them for free, depending what your income and age is.

I would look into more detail about cavity wall insulation though, as some people say you should leave the cavity empty as it can cause damp.
  • Hiya

Yes, what you were told by the surveyor is correct - cavity wall and loft insulation are free to the over 70's upto a certain square meterage which is judged and determined by the no. of beds in your house. Anything over this is payable by the customer.

    Hope that helps

Ive just signed up for cavity insulation with tesco and there is a thing on their site about this. There seems to be a certain square metre that the grant covers and you have to pay extra.

warmfront does not give free loft and cavity wall insulation to the over 70's

You need to be receiving a qualifying benefit to qualify for warmfront.

However, Eaga (who administer warmfront) do do free loft and cavity wall insulation for the over 70's
