(There was a dash in the middle of the name, and dot com at the end but I didn't want to type it!)
Whilst googling to find a recipe I clicked on a site, this name came up in the adress bar, and it went ballistic. said security compromised, and before I could blink loads of boxes were popping up all over the place that apparently I should click to save my computer.
In a panic i just clicked the corner in all the boxes till eventually they shut, then shut down.
Reopened and did Avira check -said OK. The did quick malware search, ok again.
Seems ok at present but I'm scared to search for anything now in case it happens again, can anyone throw any light on this please?

You do need to be careful closing iffy windows like that - the 'X" is not always what it seems, sometimes it is a link. It's best to kill the process in task manager. In a panic i just clicked the corner in all the boxes till eventually they shut, then shut down.
You don't say what you used to check for malware, but the best thing is to scan with MalwareBytes - install, update, full scan, fix and post the log here. Then use HijackThis - full scan, don't fix anything, just post the log.0
