Evening all.
Guess this is the correct forum.
Just a quick question. Anyone traded in a console at CEX? Just wondering how long it takes them.
Really dont want to get caught up in there for a long time tomorrow.
cheers.

yep it takes about 30 mins to check over ( all talking & messing about by the staff) oh and be prepared to be ripped off offered me £138 for an unopened ps3 slim 120gb :eek:0
-
Our PS2 took over 2.5 hours to be done as the checker and his colleague "needed to play a couple of games to make sure it worked"
Never again.0 -
Took 30 mins. Got £114 for a 40gb PS3. Not bad at all when I consider what I would get, after fees, on eBay. For the lack of hassle of posting it I thought it was a reasonable price. Guess its all relative, as I bought a new 360 with 4 games from amazon for £140 I didnt mind at all.
they wouldnt except my controller though as it was rattling which is fair enough so I gave them my better dual shock one. They did say I could buy one of their £30 controllers and sell it back to them lol.0 -
yeah Cex are good for some things, was very suprised they were offering £60 odd for my battered scratched old XDA orbit 1 phone so let them have that a couple of months back.
god knows who'd evey buy it off them at any kind of profit0 -

You would have got around £180 for it on eBay. If you had started the auction at £0.99, there would have been no insertion fee, and your final value fee would have been £18.
So, you would have netted £162 (or thereabouts).0 -

That seems a bit much. One has just gone on eBay for £155 (plus £14 P&P) which has just been 'serviced' with one genuine and two compatible controllers.
So assuming the P&P is a true cost that is £155 less 10% final value fee and it is £140, less whatever PayPal charges (around £5.50) for this transaction and you are closer to what CEX offered with a lot less hassle.0 -

Around £170 or £180 seems to be the going rate. Some sell for more, some sell for less.
A store like CEX will sell it for the price people would be willing to pay on eBay, so there's no way they're going to buy if from you for the same price.
When there's a middleman involved who wants to make a profit, you're going to end up with less.0 -

I'm not disputing that, but each person has to make the decision of if an extra few quid is worth the hassle of using eBay and having to post the item or not. If I went to the post office to do it (opposed to using a courier) that is more time of mine wasted queuing for 10 mins plus - another decision the seller has to make.
What I am saying is that eBay is not always the best option just to get an extra ten quid.0 -

Granted, but one can get a lot more than an extra £10, and whatever I get is better off in my pocket than someone else's.
Even if it were just £10, I'll queue for 10 minutes at the Post Office for a tenner anytime.0 -

And if you could make more than a tenner in the 10 mins to the post office, 10 mins queuing and 10 mins home again....?
False economy - which is why eBay is not always best despite achieving a higher price.
That is what I was trying to say, I didn't phrase it very well in my previous post0
