when i say stuff friends are talking about, its things such as stressful day in work, spider in the bath tub, man trouble. they know not to talk about anything bad coz id be walking round like a zombie with lack of sleep lol. my gosh couldnt even imagine having one if you have your own kids to look after, that must be scary for not only yourself but for the child
they start about an hour after i go to sleep the doc suggested waking up just before then which i did, but when i went back to sleep i still had them. if i had to wake up every hours id be a nightmare and couldnt function properly
no they seem to have got worse over the past few years, when i talk about them i dont get one its strange. 1st night of this new medication 2nite although just read a side effect and its insomnia, could be in for a funny niteMarried my amazing hubby on 8th September 2012 :j:j0 -
I am fairly certain my baby will grow up to develop them as I think my dad also had night terrors growing up. Either way, she will grow up knowing that their is nothing wrong with Mummy and she is having a bad dream. Likewise if it happens to her. Guess I am saying its really not that big a deal for me and my family, it is just an annoying part of me that can make me very tired from time to time.
Out of curiosity though - are you a very imaginative person? I have always had a vivid imagination and wonder if that contributes to it.
Have just found this website which looks great and looking at the forum is very well used. Guess there are more of us than I thought!

Going to bed and am sure I will have a night terror as I have been thinking about it!!!
Oh and just saw your post above - your Dr sounds useless!! Obviously if you wake yourself up after an hour you still go through the same process going back to sleep so you would still get a night terror. Thats why I can have 3 or 4 a night. Sleep - night terror - wake up - sleep - night terror - wake up - sleep. Etc etc. YAWN!0 -
yeah understand the tiredness its horrible. you make me fell like im not alone thankyou. ive never classed myself as an imaginative person to be honest, i mean i cant even imagine myself on a beach when people say it lol
have looked at that before but never seen the forum, will have another look nw thanks.
sleep well sweet dreams and fingers crossed you dont have a terror xxMarried my amazing hubby on 8th September 2012 :j:j0 -
I find it really intriguing about all the patterns involved in different people's night terrors, the common factors of spiders etc.
My boyfriend's mum suffers from night terrors when she is stressed out (things in the shadows coming to get her- I believe she also has several latent psychological issues for which she would have benefitted from professional help but that is beside the point) and it appears my bf has inherited this tendency. His are much less extreme and more like a disturbed sleep disorder, but he suffers from these seemingly typical visions of spiders falling on him, cobwebs on the ceiling and his face etc. He gets them more often when he is alone in his room than when I am there or we are both in my room.
Thanks for the link, I hope we can learn more about them and hopefully put an end to them before they end up any worse! And my sympathy to anyone who is also suffering.0 -
My ex OH used to experience night terrors. Couldn't work out why he didn't want to sleep over for ages lol! He confessed eventually and warned me what to expect. If he had one I would talk him through it, tell him it was a dream etc, and he'd come round quite quickly. He used to get them more if he was overtired or stressed out.
If we had a chat about anything that was bothering him, or if he felt a bit unsettled, he'd have one that night. Didn't used to bother me too much- I'd just tell him to go back to sleep and he would. I think the more you build it up in your own head the worse it seems.
Just in case anyone was wondering... the night terrors weren't the reason we split up... he was a !!!!!! during the day- it got to the point were I was quite glad giant sharks were attacking him from the foot of the bed

Do you by any chance have any aural issues such as tinnitus for example? I know it may sound strange but it can often be the cause of sleeping disorders. As a child I suffered night terrors which I only realised as I got older were related to tinnitus, I still suffer a great deal from disturbed sleep due to it but no longer terrors as in my case "the terrors" were the sound and not visionary images or dreams, as a an adult I can obviously recognise this but as a child it was not something I could understand.
There's a brief mention here.

it is fascinating hearing about other peoples experiences of night terrors. It is weird how it seems to be things like snakes/spiders which are frequently seen.
I remember a particularly bad one when I was about 17 where there was a man in my room. I ran out as quick as I could and jumped down the stairs (all 16 of them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!). Luckily I had ran out with my quilt still wrapped round me which cushioned the landing. My folks thought I was making night terrors up (think they still do. If they can't understand it, it isn't happening!) and even when I jumped down the stairs and woke them up with a fright they still didn't believe in them!!!!!0 -
Wonder if it could be anything to do with sugar levels as it almost sounds like diabetic hypo?0

Do you ever get the feeling that you cant move, but you can see and here. That is really scary and the feeling that your floating out of your body. Or that your landing in the bed with a big thump.
One night i saw an old man in the corner of the room with a big carving knife.
I used to think it was ghosts or i was going mad.
Another time there was an old lady in the room who said look after him and then she was gone dont know what it meant though.
Perhaps thats what ghosts are, sleep paraylisis.0 -
