Ikea... a mattress lasting less than 3 years?

We bought a new bed from Ikea about 2 and a half years ago, got the top notch mattress (double-sprung plus memory foamed to the eyeballs) to go with it (oh's mum was paying!). Just recently it's developed a massive dip in it, as if one spring's gone completely. It's not a small dent where you'd expect from people lying on it - but a good 3 inches or so indentation.

I'm sure I recall about their mattresses having a good long guarantee on them - but with it being a while since we bought it, I'm not sure what proofs of purchase we have if they want to play hard-ball with us, plus, as it's a mattress it's not easily going to fit in a car to get it back to the store. Can't afford to replace it, email contact link on the ikea site isn't working so it's going to be a few days till I can get in touch... anyone had any experiences with Ikea CS to know if it's even going to be worth our while getting an exchange done on this? I've had OLLLD mattresses before that have had much less of a sag than this - it's completely gone in one spot totally.
Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!

  • There is a live web chat thing on their website as well...is that working? I've used that before and they were very helpfu.l. They do say their mattresses have a 25 year guarantee. I've had mine for 3 years so far and it's still going strong....hope you get it sorted :D

This is more common than you might think. I hear from people all the time who are so dissapointed with their Ikea mattress that they don't even bother with the 25 year guarantee, and they just buy a british made mattress (made to a continental size). After all, one of the few things that we are still best at producing in this country is mattresses.

I bought a silient night mattress for my son 2 years ago and it is so bad i am having to get him a new one it has sunk springs have gone cannot believe how bad it is, would never buy another one from them. They say it has a 5 year guarantee but i never registered it, i do have reciept, but they would only have me paying to send back. I wish you luck getting a replacement.

Well there are exceptions to the rule as far as British made goes. If you do a search in the MSE forums, you will see that the brand that made yours is even worse.

As a general rule stay away from the big brand names, and go for the smaller independent manufacturers, who still make them by hand, rather than automated production. And they are usually far cheaper.

i recently returned two ikea matresses. Bought one early last year - it a superking size and came in two parts, well the two parts moved away from each other and the middle became like a crator. phoned the store and they sent someone out to collect it and replaced it with another model.

exact same thing happened to the replacement, sleeping in the middle of the bed (my kids 'visit' in the night) meant another crator (would call it a dip but it was more than that).

In fairness to ikea there cs was faultless. i had to send acouple of photos and that was it,they arranged collection. both times was still within 90 days of purchase though.

gotmy money back and i now have a times beds mattress and am very happy with it

The IKEA guarantees on mattresses looked pretty solid when I checked them out a few months ago.

IKEA customers service, unfortunately, is rather less solid. Despite that, claim under the warranty and see what they offer you. Let us know the outcome.

My ikea matress sunk in the middle after a couple of years so I rang ikea cs. I didn't have the receipt but they said if i could find out the date i bought it using statements then they'd look up the transaction from that. In the end I found the receipt but now I'm not in such a hurry seeing as I've got another 22 years or so. They said they'd send someone out even though I live 2 hours drive away from the store so should be ok.

Ikea seem to be very good at replacing faulty items under their guarantee. However I have found that many people get so fed up with the low quality of their mattresses that they look somewhere else rather than having another Ikea mattress. In my book that doesn't say much for Ikeas quality.
