Until July last year I was on Incapacity benefits and my CTAX was being paid 100%.Kingston upon thames sent me a bill months ago for ctax for apl-jul 2003.I explained the position and heard nothing more.Today,I have got a letter saying I am in court later this month for back tax of about £190.Haven`t seen the letter yet as the idiots have sent the letter to Doncaster although they know I live in Suffolk.Mother is redirecting it - but what is my best course of action please?

if the summons was sent to the wrong address (and you did not receive it until less than 14 days before the court date) and they have admitted that they made a mistake posting it to Doncaster then phone them and tell them that the "summons was not issued in line with statutory demand and that you will be making representations to the issuing Magistrate's court for the Liability Order to be qauashed'. If you explain this to a senior officer or manager they will be sh*tting bricks..
it's not the council's fault your band is wrong, blame the Valuation Office !!!!!

lol l have never heard a story like yours, my council tax is as bad as u experienced but not as bad. The council go into previous accounts and take money out and then send you a warranty bill stating you have not paid the full year off!! lol even if u have the proof to show it.

But l got a handy trick now l learnt that you can do to them!! what ever they do to you you can do the same to them!! if they send you warrantys then you can send a letter to them and charge administration fees of £15.00 pounds per letter!! let the letters build up and money and then employ a debt agency to collect the money they owe you from the council!! lol and it works!!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome to MSE deca. You have been trawling back a long way to find this thread. One thing I really learned from this was to insist that the CTAX people photocopied everything I took, signed the original and gave the original back to me. They used to claim that they hadn`t received letters even though I used to hand them in. On the day I got really angry and insisited (loudly) on this, quite a few people in the waiting room told me that they were in the same position.

well l do the things you have said. However, the council really do just hate me! lol serioulsy! and l just checked all my previous installment booklets! turns out they have calculated things like discounts wrong, the council just make things harder for you in the hope that you will just give in, lol but l am not giving in. They have cancelled all my beneifits now even for 2007 to 2008 lol and l am unemployed at the mo !!
