Annoying Charges You Didn't Expect When Moving ...

Just in the final throes of moving and today it was "cancel stuff day". I've been hit with some charges I never expected.

1] Virgin Media Broadband: I cancelled this and they told me there's a charge they are charged from BT, £23.

2] Endsleigh Contents Insurance: I phoned up to cancel my policy (that costs me £93/year). Cost to cancel it: £50. OK then, I'll just do a change of address now and another one next month: £20 each.... left it run ning for now but will probably end up doing just one change of address in a month.

Annoying surprises eh!

:)

What unexpected fees, charges, etc did you find when you moved?

I got hit with a charge for cancelling my home insurance with Aviva, wasn't impressed. I suprised by a charge for virgin? Provided your outside your minimum contract what charge could their be? I cancelled with Tiscali and there were no charges incurred by BT?

There was no minimum contract. I failed their silly credit check when I started, so they said there was a month's notice at any time. They said because I get the service through a BT landline, there's a charge from BT to them.

It's only money, but it is an annoying surprise.

Where are you going? Are you treating yourself to a bigger room?

I find it annoying having to buy new loo brushes when I move. Not very expensive but annoying, lol. I couldn't bring myself to move house with a loo brush.

    Nowhere and everywhere.

It always amazes the charges that creep in it's like finding your car insurance has gone up by x amount just because you've gained a drive and not a private car park...(yes a private car park is apprently safer than your own drive...)
  • Sky - they have charged me £60 for a new sky dish to be put up

Scottish power had failed to tell me that for the last year I have been underpaying... owe them £96

That was the other charge, there was two, the change in postcode which can be expected and the ther was the fact that god forbid we had chosen a property with a driveway instead of a car park....
