Genuine Charity Site?

Is there any way to check a Genuine Charity Site?

I processed a donation online today with my debit card today. It might just be a coincidence but as soon as I finished putting it through I had problems with my internet connection.

I don’t want to post site link info on forum as I feel that’s a bit cheeky and disrespectful to the Charity. Would it be possible to PM site info to one of you wonderful Techie wizards to check It out for me PLEASE.

Connection seems to be ok now though, maybe its just my suspicious mind. :o:o

  • You can confirm the legitimacy of a charity by searching by their name or registered number via the Charity Commission website.

Can you describe what problems you were experiencing?

Not all genuine charities are registered with the commission though depends on their income.
I started with nothing and I am proud to say I still have most of it left.

Thanks anewhope, I’ll check it now.

Connection just kept shutting down, it does appear to be ok now though. A feel a bit guilty for being suspicious of a charity though. :o:o

You could check out the Domain name with whois and also take a look at the "Contact Us" section of their site. You could then Google for the Charity name and see if it brings up a different site or details.
  • Sorry my mistake I checked the company registration number instead of the charity Number.

It is a legitimate site. :o:o

    Thanks

I feel so guilty now for being suspicious of a charity, might need to put another donation through as punishment for my evil thoughts.

I don't think you should be. It's always worth checking.

I am astonished when looking at the Charity Commission website how many registered 'charities' are shown as being late in submitting their annual accounts.

I fear that there may be another job for the Daily Telegraph here.

I wouldn't feel guilty. Far better that you're sure your money is going to a worthwhile cause, and not a scammer. Good call for actually bothering to check, I say!
