Council Tax Re-banding

Prompted by the links on this website, I checked out my immediate neighbours' council tax banding and discovered they were all band D while we were band F. I called the Council (Ealing) and a week later a VOA valuer wrote to arrange to make an inspection. He visted 3 days later. It took him all of 5 minutes. He agreed that we should be re-banded and wrote confirming this after a week or so. I had expected the reduction to be operative from the time of re-banding, but today I received a cheque for almost £6,000 from the Council covering the 10 years of overpayment since we moved in. Result. Great money-saving tip!
