DLA How long?

We applied for DLA at the end of April/beginning of May, but all we have heard since then was a letter about 2 weeks later to say that our application was being looked into.
Anyone know how long it normally takes to get a answer back?

    Hi
I think I waited 8-10 weeks for a decision but it can take up to 12 weeks

I applied 17th April and still just geting letters to say still looking at it. My doctor did not help though, she got form on 9 May and I seen her a week later, she only returned the form last week, might be work checking if they are waiting on a report from doctor. Give them a ring

We actually went to our doctors who helped us with the filling in of it.

I don't hold much hope for it, we applied last year and I was turned down on the basis that if my wife left stuff out to make a sandwich I would be able to make one.
Why that is taken into consideration I don't know.

BTW am I right in thinking that it is back dated to when you first put your claim in, presuming that we are allowed to have it?

Usually about 12 weeks, but I have know it to take 6 months, this was when a request for information from a school was requested during the summer holiday period, not very bright, but they wouldn't look at it until it was completed.

It is backdated to claim form date if awarded, so if you're entitled you won't loose anything because of the waiting.

If there has been a delay in getting information, then they only usually send it to the decision maker once that has been received, they won't put it in that queue until all information is in.

You can ring them and ask what stage it is at, but I tend to find it takes as long as it takes, nothing hurries it along
One day I might be more organised...........

Even if your doctor helped you fill it in the DLA can sometimes send to your doctor for more information, this has happened me in the past, my son has been getting dla since he was 3 and now 17. Give them a ring tomorrow and check, I ring every 2 days just to check if they have got all info they now need lol
