Abbey (santander!)

Hi, 8 weeks ago i sent the letter off to Abbey about my PPI on my credit card account,Because when it was taken out they "persuaded" me to have it, eevn tho I dodn't work then and still don't, and I've had cancer!
Sooooo, as it is, I've heard nothing from them at all,and they are still taking the PPI payments, even tho my card is maxed and actually over the limit.

At present I am communicating with them about a payment plan,(will be going to cccs in new year) and they have asked for a income and expediture form,(done), but they haven't acknowledged my letter and they still take the payments....

HELP? What do I do now?
Even tho i am in arrears on my payments with them, am I still entitled to cancel and claim back the ppi?

    Hello there

So sorry about the cancer and wish you a speedy recovery.;)

Yes you can cancel the PPI when you want to, although banks have their own way of dealing with it, this may be that they suggest a new loan without PPI to pay off the existing loan, if this is the way they do this then make sure that the rate is that equal to the existing loan or better.

However, you state that your going to the CCCS in the coming new year, so maybe this way would not be a good idea, so you can try if you want to bear it out until the new repayments are sorted out in regards of hardship, where if successful they should reduce this anyway, by paying off the arrears and anything remaining to come back to you.

I would try chasing them up and tell them you will give them 7-14 days and if you heard nothing by then you have no choice but to take to the financial ombudsman service (FOS).
After the 8 weeks have passed you can do this anyway.

If you do go to the FOS, then request for fast tracking, let them know your issues both financially and medically if you can, then they will get on with this quicker for you.

Please keep us posted hun, wishing you the very best of luck, also with your health and hope things get better for you.:A;)

    Hi There
Were you able to claim at all on the PPI when you were diagnosed with Cancer or was that before you had the card PPI?

  • Hi, thanks for the replies, I had cancer in 1998, so long before the card was taken out,BUT i do believe that should i become ill they wouldn't pay out anyway due to the existing health conditions, and anyway, I haven't worked since I was diagnosed!

While I'm on this, just a quick question.....
The card was taken out when I went into my local branch and a girl was asking people if they were intersetd in taking out the card, she asked me,and went thru the application, when it came to employment I said I didn't work, alhto i did voluntary at the playgroup my son attended, she said "we'll put it down at 25grand a year "

I was convinced I wouldn't be accepted anyway, as I didn't have a great creidt history due to not working and therefore not taking credit!
I realist thsi is basically hearsay, my word against hers etc etc, but it still irks me!!
