Bank given my 10 yr old a current account!!

Hi all,

Some years ago Natwest closed my daughters saving account and opened an advantage gold account for her and sent her a credit card, a 5 year old with a credit card!!!

Anyway at the time i had a dodgy credit record all previous attempts to get a proper account had failed so i took the opportunity to raise my credit profile, so i kept the account and never used it. Thing is i have now realised that she is still on the account even though i asked for her to be removed.

Does this mean that my daughter has a credit score now, as it is a current account?

Gathering from the OP I would say the daughter is now 10.

  • She was 5 when they changed her savings account to a current account, she is 10 yrs old now.

Did you put your name on this account and ask for your daughter to be removed?

The account should have been close and returned to a savings account for your daughter. What happened to your daughters savings?

The Natwest Advantage Gold account costs £12.95 a month. So you were paying this?

Do you mean debit card instead of credit card?

Credit Reference Agencies don't hold information about people who are under 18 (AFAIK).

Is the account solely in her name, jointly with you or held in trust for her?
  • The young saver was in her name, the current account apparently is in both of our names, when i asked them to switch it back they said they couldn't and that i would have to apply again for a young savers, birth certificates etc again, so i just kept using a post office account i had for her and kept the current to raise my credit, which it did. i just put my child benefit in there and kept my wages going through my step account.

  • Actually they sent her a real credit card, which i promptly sent back instead of abusing.

    It's not a credit card.

Credit cards are not linked to a current account. So, it will either be a debit card ordered in error or a cashpoint card (which children are allowed to have).
