Anyone know a cheap and reliable car body repairer, Essex area

Hi

Had a bit of a crash yesterday, got rear ended at a zebra crossing. Am unsure whether to claim on the insurance yet (£500 excess wont be easy to find), so want to take it into somewhere to see how much it would be to fix, out of my own pocket.

If it turns out to be fairly cheap i may just pay for it, balanced against the loss of NCD, and finding the excess, it may be worth it. On the other hand i might just get them to patch it up as it were. Stuff like the number plate that is smashed, and glass on an indicator, which could do with being done soonish, while the rest of it (basically just a bit of a squashed rear end), could wait a month or so while i find the excess

Does anyone know of a good bodywork garage in Essex (preferably Chelmsford/Billericay area)? Also, any general advice appreciated. Will the insurance company mind if i leave it a while before getting the repairs done? And i presume if i pay for any work myself, this will not be refunded by the insurance?

Thanks

However you decide, you still need to inform your insurance company of the accident.

If you don't get full recovery from the other driver it will affect your NCD.
If you do get full recovery, why worry about any excess on the policy?

I could recommend a good bodyshop - but sounds like you want a bodged up job - which a 'good' bodyshop wouldn't do.

    wheres the advice in that?

your quote is like someone asking you for directions you saying yes i could direct you but sounds to me if your after a short cut so no i wont direct you ask someone else.

all i can suggest op if you were hit by someone in the rear end havent they offered to pay for the damage or at least contribute to it? whatever you decided to do all i can recomend is looking for quotes with garage body repairers or chips away perhaps if its not that much damage just a bumper etc then scrap yard for replacements like lenses, motor factors for a number plate dont forget to take along your v5 registration and ID its the law without them no number plate.
