Who are Wescot National Australia Group?

Hi everyone,
I've had a couple of letters from Wescot Credit Services stating I owe them money. The first letter was a confirmation of address which I ignored as I've read many a forum stating they've probably got rough details of someone with my name and are sending out letters to all possibilities for a response.
Yesterday I received a letter which now says I have failed to continue payment since....
but no date is entered.
I then had a call from them this morning in which I said I had never heard of them & the lady said I had previously spoken to them on the telephone (which is a lie) but I'm sure it's a tactic to get me to acknowledge the debt.
Anyway, I've got the idea that the credit services are a debt collection set-up but have no idea who the creditor they've listed are which is the Wescot - National Australia Group.
It's not a huge amount of money but all the other forums I've read on this involve companies that the person has at least heard of or can trace fairly easily. I'll be at work at the weekend so can check through there I suppose. Just wondered if anyone here knows who they are & what they provide??
Thanks

Don't know who they are but sounds like you need to send the prove it letter to westcot http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=11570893&postcount=2
Just found another post which says that yorkshire bank are owned by national australia bank if that helps? http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=27219759&postcount=26A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -

They are the people who own Clydesdale Bank or Yorkshire Bank.
And Wescot are separate debt collectors who are either working for them or who have bought the debt.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

National Australia bank (UK) LTD (trading as Clydesdale and Yorkshire bank) would seem the obvious creditor. If you have never had any dealings with them then send the prove it letter but after the 'I acknowledge no debt... ' bit add that you have never heard of this company nor had any dealings with them.

Ah... that makes a bit more sense now then, I banked with them about 7 or 8 years ago. That might also explain the lack of date as I thought 6 years is the maximum recovery time providing no payment has been made since. I might be wrong though.
Thanks Tixy0 -
Thanks everyone else aswell. After my last post - does this mean I should still not acknowledge the debt even though I have (probably from the info you've given) dealt with them in the past?
Or would I be better to asked for details of payments etc on the account?0 -

Sounds like the debts could be statute barred then, and Wescot are chancing their arm.
Have a look at the info in this link:
> Link: Statute barred debts - Links and letters.
If needed there are letters there to tell Wescot to "get lost".Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

If it is 7 or 8 years since you last acknowledged the debts or made a payment then Wescot can "take a hike" regardless.

Well, how long ago was it that you last acknowledged this debt?
The creditors have six years from your last payment / letter / phone call / other acknowledgement of the debt, not six years from when you took out the debt! So play your cards close to your chest. Send the prove it letter but add in a paragraph about statute of limitations.Would you ask the wolves to look after the sheep?

Quick update.
I'm sure this was all dealt with before I had my 7 year but you got me thinking so I called my fella & he has no knowledge of all of this, except chit-chat over the years & I met him 9 years ago. Just before this would be around the time when I was a bit more reckless & ended up with the CAB sorting out my debts for me, one of which was an overdraft with Yorkshire bank.
It's like the whole jigsaw coming together!!
I think I will send them the 'prove it' letter but as you advised Charco, pop the statute of limitations paragraph on there. I have heard mixed stories about how they respond but will be interested to see. Do I enclose a fee for a copy of the debt details or just send it recorded delivery and sit tight for now?0 -
Sorry that should be 7 year old child!!0
