NCB on new car, old car 3 weeks away from renew

Hi,
I'm not about the legalities of this, but I have just bought a new used car, call it car A, and want to insure it using my 7 years NCB. My exisiting car, say car B, is due for renewal in 3 weeks and I will be looking to get rid of it within the next month.
Can I take out a new policy on car A using my NCB earned on car B or do I need to wait for the insurance to expire first? If I contact my current insurers to update the details they will charge an increased premium AND £25 admin fee, which I want to avoid. If I take out a new policy I can get an online discount and avoid admin fees (and get cashback), but not sure if I am able to use the NCB in this way.
It's only 3 weeks to expiration so I am hoping that this can be done without issue.

Hi there
NCB can only be used once, no matter how long it's for. Even if you want an overlap of 1 day, you are not allowed to do so. Some companies will give you an "introductory" NCB for a 2nd car, so you could insure both cars with the same company for a while. Check the policy terms on cancelling cover on one of the cars before doing this, as if you intend to sell car B, you don't want to get stung with a cancellation fee!!
You can ask your insurers to cover both cars for a limited time and they are usually happy to do this for a fixed fee.In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and was widely regarded as a bad move. The late, great, Douglas Adams.0 -
My insurance is with Kwik Fit. Does anyone know how much they would charge to cancel/update my policy with these changes? I know I can't have an exact figure but an approximation would be nice. I'm tempted to wait the 3 weeks, not renew, and take a new policy0
