Is still waiting for their new car under the Scrappage Scheme?

As the title says really,

I ordered an i10 at the beginning of Oct, initially delivery was supposed to be Oct/Nov, then moved to end of Nov, at the moment I am told end of Dec, but I am not holding my breath!

I have had very little contact from the dealer apart from my phone calls to them!

Anybody in the same boat!

Remember, VAT goes up in January.
  • My sister ordered a Polo under the scrappage scheme and was supposed to have taken delivery of it at the end of November...hold on, we're mid way into December now *sigh* So yeh, she's in the same boat. She's now being told that she can collect it on 23rd December. No point holding your breath!!
  • I know about the vat, I was told I could pay in full before delivery to avoid the increase!!! As if I would! Once I (if ever) get a delivery date, then I will cross the extra vat problem with them.

I also know they have only until the beginning of Feb before the 4 month deadline is up!

Does the scrappage scheme finish at the beginning or end of Feb does anyone know?

I'm waiting for my Toyota Aygo (mid-January) and Toyota are holding the VAT rate, i.e. they are bearing the cost. Scrappage car has to be handed in by 28th February according to my dealer.

Perhaps you should tackle the question of the VAT increase with the dealer now just to put your mind at rest (hopefully!).
  • Well, the dealer promised me, he would call me mid Dec, with an update!
    I'm still waiting!
If he hasn't called by Tuesday I will call him and 'suggest' they stand the VAT increase, or at least offer me some extras for the delay!

I have a feeling that I have seen somewhere on a finance or car website reference to a VAT concession by the government on cars ordered/deposit paid prior to 31st December. In fact it might have been the Honest John website. To be fair, my dealer made this offer before I saw this so could have been him giving me a decent deal or he might have already known about it!

OP - found this: "Loophole in VAT Rate".

  • Absolutely get some extras out of them. My sister managed to get 3 years free servicing at VW which is obviously worth a fair bit.
  • I'm going to call the dealer in the morning, .....here's hoping!
  • Ordered mine 10th August, eventually got it 15th November (Renault Clio 1.2 Extreme [AC]).

Just have to be patient I'm afraid, although it made a mockery of the scrappage scheme, I felt vindicated that I'd battled to get another MOT on the pug as I did 5000 miles in those 3 months!
