How do I refund through paypal?

I am trying to refund several people for items that did not arrive due to royal mail. They have been most patient and I really would like to refund them all, however, if I attempt to refund them via paypal myself, it won't work. I have no money in my paypal account but usually I can pay for things and the money comes out my bank account in a couple days.
When I go to payment details I scroll down and click on ISSUE REFUND it then goes to the next page stating customer nam ebay ID amount to refund etc, so then I click on continue, it then takes me to the review and process refund page, at the top of this page it states :-
Your refund must not exceed your available balance. If you have funds in another currency balance, you may want to consider transferring funds from other currency balances.
As I stated earlier I have no money in my paypal account.
At the bottom of this page it states:-
Note: If your PayPal account balance doesn't have enough money in it to cover this refund, money will be automatically transferred from your backup funding source.
My back up funding source is my bank account, (I think)
Beneath the first comment it states:-
Confirm the refund details and then click Issue Refund. To change the refund amount, click Edit.
The only buttons I can see on this page are Edit and Cancel as above, No ISSUE REFUND button anywhere!!
What should I do? They've been waiting nearly a month for their items, I can't keep them waiting any longer! One has started a dispute with paypal and I managed to refund that with no probs, so I emailed the rest of them and told them to raise a dispute so i can refund as i was having probs doing it myself, and now one of them has started a dispute with ebay instead of pay pal and I can't issue refund this way. Don't wanna p*** people off too much, just want to pay them back and draw a line under it all, drivin me nuts now
Please help. Thanks in advance.

Call this a PayPal bug - basically if you dont have the money in your PayPal account, you cannot refund them using the issue refund button, you have to send them the money via Paypal Gift and call it a refund.
This only seems to affect some of my transactions, but I spent over an hour to PayPal arguing with them and couldn't get them to waive it etc.
The problem is PayPal refund the fee too, but for some reason they *sometimes* dont if they have to pull that money back from your bank account.
As it happens i've just emailed my friend to send me some PayPal money for this exact reason...!Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.0 -

Thanks for your reply Jakg what a pain in the b***!! the first person that started a dispute did it before I requested others do it, I managed to do it from paypal. Maybe I should just send more messages rehiterating that they should start disputes via paypal itself?

Don't do it this way you won't get your paypal fees back also as its not done by the official refund method (just a gift) its not attached to the original transaction so the buyer could then open a dispute and get a refund because technically you will not have refunded them
The best thing to do ist transfer some money to your paypal account (this will take a few days) explain to you buyers that as soon as the money reaches paypal you will refund and thank them for there patience0 -
As far as I understand you don't. If your a business seller and the refund is due to the distance selling regulations you can get 80% of your FVF back. As far as I remember you don't get it back for lost items or private sellers.Bluebelle72 wrote: »Also, how do I get my ebay fees refunded to me after I refund the customers?
