2nd ipod broken - shall I give up?

Hi all,
My 2nd ipod has just died after less than 2 years. While I like the ease of use and vast memory of ipods, I am fed up with what seems to me to be their short life and high cost. I mainly use it in the house, for music. Can anyone advise whether I should risk another, buy a smaller one eg a nano, or go elsewhere eg Sony, and if so, which one?
Thanks in advance,
Caroline

I bought one of these based on the reviews for it on Amazon and love it. I also ended up buying one for my 13 year old daughter too!

If you only use your iPod for music, I suggest the Sandisk Sansa Clip. I bought one for my dad for Christmas two years ago and he loves it! It's just as easy to find songs on as an iPod.
If you like iPods, do what I did and buy one in Currys. You can get a 5 year cover for about £80, which seems a lot, but it covers any type of damage, as far as I'm aware.0 -

CarolineThe common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.0 -
hi stoneman, just checked and John Lewis is only a 1 yr warranty, to get the 3 yr warranty is another £40, about the same as apple's similar scheme, but nice thought! Certainly if I buy one again i will get an extended warranty0

Our eldest has had a Philips one for about 4 years now- never had any issues with it, it's taken some knocks, and I find it far more user friendly than an Ipod!Only dead fish go with the flow...0

I've had a Sony wire-free 8gb MP3, (think its an AXXX 828 or something) first one I had froze after 6 months, bought with Amazon they had a new one at my door before I even had the chance to wrap the old one up! The new one seems to be fine- its about 11 months old now and still going strong. When I need a new MP3 (probably for more space rather then anything else) it will be a sony. I know they cost more (though not as much as Apple!) but I really believe they are better quality.
I'd always do my research first though, read through review sites like Amazon, Dooyoo, Ciao and anywhere else you can think. Then go with the group for the best customer service.
And btw- I thought it was 2 years warrenty as standard with John Lewis- have they changed this now or is it only on certain items?0 -

Might sound like a stupid question, but are you sure the ipod is actually broken and doesn't just need reformatting via itunes or something like that?
I have had my ipod for about 4 years now and it is still going strong, however I have had to reset it a couple of times by reformatting it on itunes, when it has frozen or crashed.0 -
I was reading this and thought the same thing - have you tried everything to get it working again?
When you say it is broken, what exactly is wrong with it and what is showing (if anything) on the display?
There are certain tricks to getting some of them working again.
