Help! payapl chargeback arghhhh!

I really need some help and am fumming!! I run a small business selling cloth nappies and sent £500 worth to France in 3 parcels. I didn't hear from the buyer so assumed all was ok until today she has filed a chargeback with paypal without even contacting me first! I stand to loose £500 from it and fill it might make me want to give up! Stupidly I only sent by Airmail and am angry with myself as I was going to send by 48 hour courier. Paypal has already reversed the charges without even contacting me so my account is now -£200! What can I do now?? I want to cry I have worked so hard at building up the business over the past few months but Is it really worth all this!

    Yup, Paypal are bloody awful.
Unfortunately you're about to find out just what a pile of marketing bullsh*t the Paypal Seller "protection" program really is.

At present, Paypal have ringfenced the £500 (i.e they havent as yet refunded the buyer).
Next up Paypal will email you asking you to send them proof of posting - I've heard that International Signed For isnt acceptable !
If you can't provide proof - Paypal refund the buyer.
And as you're £200 in the red - they'll demand you pay that.

I've had buyers use stolen credit cards / compromised Paypal acccounts to pay for stuff I've sold on eBay. Paypal still find against me !!

We own 12 websites - we no longer accept Paypal on any of them. Yet, Paypal still regulaly contact us offering us better deals to move back to them!!

Paypal is sh*t for sellers !

I wasn't going to post on this thread, because it's apparant that you know where your error lay, but ScratUK's post impelled me to do so. There's a lot of talk in there about how paypal seller's protection isn't worth anything but it highlights something. Whether paypal seller protection works or not, if you don't follow Paypal's t& C's it has NO chance to work.

Anyway, having said that, how long ago were the packages sent? While airmail shouldn't take that long, there may still be a chance that they will turn up. I can't imagine a bunch of nappies are going to be a target of choice for postal thieves. However as all three have gone missing, it is possible (perhaps likely) that either the purchaser has got them and is now trying to twist you (since you can't prove they were delivered) or they were purchased fraudulently. Not good news, I'm afraid.

Unfortunately, some people who buy products online think it's part of the "game" to cheat suppliers, particularly if the suppliers don't follow the procedure laid out. They tend not to see suppliers as anything other than faceless entities. I doubt it will have any effect, but you might want to email or phone them directly (without being unpleasant or accusing) and let them see that you are a private individual. It might impel them to "suddenly" have them arrive.

Thanks for your replies, the items were sent on the 1st June so I would have though they had got there by now. I am thinking this buyer is trying it on as you say all 3 parcels not turning up?? I used smartstamp on my computer for the postage so at least I have that as proof, I have had a look at royal mail website and I should be able to claim for the contents but only at cost price(what a load of c**p!) I'm gonna re-think things and see where I can go from here!

There are two different questions here and each needs to be handled differently.

Firstly, to stop a paypal chargeback you need to prove delivery using a postal method specified by paypal https://www.paypal.com/uk/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_help-ext&ui_mode=answer&prior_transaction_id=0&action_code=4&answer_id=6894796&leafid=95937&_PPP=511&_PPC=4&_FI=Tracking_Deliveries . If you can't prove delivery then paypal do exactly what they say they will and will refund the buyer. That is what we agree to when we use paypal.

The second part is compensation and this is aimed at the Royal mail. Goods up to £32 are covered by a COP, goods above that must be sent with a different service and with the appropriate level of insurance. If you do not follow RMs terms and conditions then you cannot claim.

IT's hard I know and I do feel for the OP but in this case two completely different sets of terms and conditions have been ignored and this seller stands to lose an awful lot of money.

I would caution anyone using either paypal or the Royal mail to read and understand the limitations of the service you agree to use.

I feel for the OP I really do, but I can't see of any way that she can reclaim any of this money.

I have just read the international signed for service part of the paypal help and they contradict themselves at the bottom they say it may or may not be acceptable method, but then under questions it says that international signed foe is acceptable!

The problem with international signed for is that royal mail says that they track to "some" countries, but which countires seems to be a secret!

Thanks again for replies, I'm not sure why I posted here really as I have shot myself in the foot and cost myslef a lot of money. This will be a hard lesson for me. I know realise from reading RM's website I can only claim for £32 per parcel:mad: I am trying to get some response from the buyer and have even sent them an email translated into French, and If they don't get back to me well I'll assume them have scammed me into a whole load of free nappies!

Also, as 3 parcels have been lost can I suggest you just double check your scales and labels just to make sure something silly hasn't happened and there was insufficient postage, or the label printed out for surface instead of airmail, that would account for all 3 going astray.

I would also be very careful about making assumptions on a public forum that the buyer is scamming you. Things do get lost in the post and France has had more than its fair share of problems. If you can prove you are being scammed then take the matter further and involve the law, if not then maybe just chalk this up to experience.

AS you are a business you can write your losses off against tax (ask your accountant), so at least you haven't lost the full amount.

On the off chance that they are trying it on - you could try contacting the French postal service. There's always a chance they might be able to put you in touch with the buyer's local sorting office - indeed there may even be some sort of record of the 3 parcels being delivered.

If they are pulling a fast one - letting them know that you've contacted the local post office and they are investigating the matter might scare them enough to back down and the parcels may suddenly appear.
