Car Insurance increased by £200 without claiming & points is this correct?

Hi im 23 and have been driving for 3 years, i now have 3 years no claims bonus on the 18th December this is when my car insurance is due to renewed. I have no points on my licence & no criminal convictions.

I took my car insurance out from a insurance broker when i first passed my test, i now have a vauxhall corsa 1.2 16V that is 2004 reg.

Last year i paid £540 and this was paid in full, this year i have received the renewal notice and it confirms that they would need £740 for my insurance to be renewed with the current provider.

Does any one have any idea why this has increased so much!!

It's not uncommon for a renewal quote to significantly more than the amount you paid the previous year. The insurer relies on the fact that you can't/won't be bothered shopping around for a better price. Get on one of the price comparison websites (confused, comparethemarket) and you'll probably find a much better deal.

Insurance rates have generally gone up by around 10% during the year though.
  • Mines nearly doubled this year so i'm no longer with Admiral. Just seems to be the way of it.

As Shimrod said, insurance co's hope you will just glance at the renewal and pay it anyway.
My Dad was doing this on his home insurance for years. By quirk of fate I found out how much his renewal was just days before it was due. To renew was going to cost just under £800 but I showed him within minutes that I could get him a like for like policy online for under £300. When he called his ins co to decline the renewal they came back with a price of £333!
He politely declined and changed co's.
