About to sign up to BG's WebSaver 5 but thought I would ask them :- with the contract I had with them as in the title, it is about to end I thought I could just sign up for the webSaver 5. DON'T in the next few days all the people on the price guarantee Dec 2009 should get a letter from BG offering their existing customers the chance to extend the price guarantee Dec 2009, to do so, you do nothing and will automatically transferred over. Be warned if you do nothing you will not be able to take up the webSaver 5 WITHOUT PENALTY charges. When you receive the letter fill it in saying you do not want the contract to role over and post back to them. Then on the 1st January 2010 go on the internet and sign up for the webSaver 5 if its still open.

I had an email, so I think it is best to switch to the Standard tariff, then at least you have a choice.
Don't fancy Price Guarantee March 2011 .. sounds like lock in to higher prices ...
I owe BG too much money, so I can't leave them, but will hunt on 2nd Jan 2010, for their best online Tariff.
Are the current online Tariffs better than the Energy smart one ?
Thanks

Fixing your prices was a very good decision and saved you money
Dear Sprintblue
In 2008 you chose to fix your prices and signed up to Price Guarantee December 2009. As a result, we purchased your gas and electricity in advance to guarantee that we could provide you with a fixed price and peace of mind. Many of our customers choose this option as it makes budgeting easier and takes away the impact of volatile commodity markets.
On average, dual fuel customers on Price Guarantee December 2009 saved £137*
While energy prices can go up and down, your decision to fix your prices saved you money, with dual fuel customers saving over £135. This saving is compared to our Standard tariff, which moves more closely in line with wholesale commodity prices.
A guaranteed price for two winters - exclusively for you
We can’t provide fixed prices to all of our customers but for you we have created a new product, Price Guarantee March 2011. This is based on feedback from our customers about wanting peace of mind and certainty for two winters. To guarantee today’s prices to you there is a small premium of 3% compared to our Standard tariff.
We’ve taken care of everything so that you don’t need to take any action
To make life easier we will automatically transfer you on to Price Guarantee March 2011 This new tariff starts from 1 January 2010 and ensures that your prices remain fixed until the end of March 2011.
Of course, if you decide that you would not like to take up this offer then we will happily move you to our Standard tariff. Simply follow the online instructions before 31 January 2010.
