File/Folder Synchronisation

Hi, can anyone recommend any free software so that I can easily synchronise files and folders between my laptop and desktop computers?
I am currently using shared folders, but this can be quite time consuming and I'm never sure whether I've copied everything from one to the other.
Many thanks in advance for any suggestions.
ps I'm using a wireless connection if this makes any difference.
