Topps price match promise - or any other shop!

How good is a price match promise? Is it not worth the bother? If it’s not in their interest, they simply refuse to match a price (even with printed out proof of a better price!).
From The Topps Tiles website:
If you buy any product from Topps Tiles then find it in stock cheaper somewhere else within 7 days, we will match the price and give you an extra 5% discount. The product must be in stock at the time of purchase.
Topps Tiles offered the laminate I wanted for £12 per square metre. I found a website shop offering the same for £9.31 per square metre. Topps said the best they would do was £10.50 – hardly a match with an extra 5%, was it!
I agreed to buy it 22 metres anyway as I had cashed in £55 of Tesco vouchers to get £220 of Topps Deal vouchers. When it came to paying, they went back on our agreed price. They refused to offer any discount at all, saying it couldn’t be used in conjunction with Tesco Deal vouchers although it wasn’t in the conditions of sale that came with the vouchers!
I finished up paying £12 per square metre, as I had to use the vouchers.

Am I on my own with this one?0

Write to Head Office and make a formal complaint. Give them a defined time limit in which to respond.
Threaten them with Trading Standards if that gets you nowhere.

Didn't bother with sending a formal complaint to head office, as I think it's highly unlikely that they will back down, so went for your second option. We'll see what happens.
Anybody else couldn't get a price match on anything even though they've complied with all the conditions?0
