L.G.fridge/freezer

the fridge/freezer is two years old on jan 03 2010 and is covered by the manufacturer warranty till then.On the 20 of nov it stop working,they came and looked at it on the 25/10 and said it needed a compasser and it will be two weeks top,today the 16/12 they have wrote it off and said that they are sending me a letter with a credit note for the £420 to spend in currys that what i payed for it ,the fridge frezzer is now £650 and LG are saying they will not put any money towards the new one.can anyone help.

    I'm sorry but i dont think that you have a leg to stand on here, i believe they only have to give you what you paid, were they not willing to simply replace with the same model?

    on the other hand, if it has broken down like that already you may be better off getting a completely different brand, i've had a servis frudge freezer for 10 years without a single problem.

    You seem to be forgetting you've had nearly 2 years of good use out of it. Even if they could replace it, there would be a very good chance of you getting a refurbished unit which they would have been well within their rights to give you. You've been given a full refund of what you've paid, I would say that was a result.

    If I know the letter, LG say "...to the same specification". This does put us in an awkward position (LG giving away someone else's money is easy for them!), but I have honoured that in the past (where the difference was not too great)

    so you think currys will give me a replacement one,i donot think so.if i asked them to email me the letter could i take that to the shop as the post could take 2 or 3 days.

    They may give you the replacement, they may just credit the amount paid for the original. Check the wording of the letter, if it says "an equivalent specification" and not "up to the original price paid", then you'll have more to go on.

    been to currys today sort it out,we had to pay £165 on top of the credit note.the gent said we could get some money back off the food that was in the f -f from currys if we emailed them with the amount that was in the f-f at the time,lets see who we get on!!!
