London marathon for charity

Options
I want to run the London marathon, but of course it's now too late to secure a place unless I manage to get one through a charity, known as 'gold bond' places in return for a pledge to raise a certain amount.

But most of the charities I've seen would require a pledge of around £1500. Being a student, this is quite difficult as I do not have enough time to find sponsorships, nor the funds to pay it myself.

So, my request is to you people: do you know of any charities that are offering guaranteed places to run in the Virgin 2010 London Marathon with a minimum pledge of less than £1000? Apparently there was one for £500, but their places have been allocated.

All help will be much appreciated!

the places are expensive for the charities to buy, which is why they ask for that kind of pledge. Perhaps you could find a way to fundraise through organising events?
for more info check out www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk . You'll find me there.

Or you could just run a marathon and enter the ballot for 2011 :D

I'm doing Blackpool on 11th April, but there's Stratford, Brighton, E'burgh and a whole host of overseas ones...

I did the whole raising money last year and it was awful - much worse than the training (trust me thats hard enough), plus the charity pays £300 for a golden bond place, and once you've taken off admin fees, t-shirts etc a very small amount of your money will go to the actual work of the charity!

Ballot for 2011 opens on 26th of April I believe :)
