Hello
I am looking for advice regarding payment protection and life insurance. My friends uncle took out total mortgage protection plan with halifax along with his mortgage. However when he fell ill he stopped paying the monthly payments and has never claimed. He now has arrears and on his mortgage and tmpp these are around 13months. Can you tell me if any policys are still valid? The same situation is in place for a secured loan which has also not been paid for around 13 months.
Can you pay the arrears and make a claim?, is the policy still valid.
Thanks

Such policies normally lapse after x months unpaid premiums. He should have had correspondence to confirm that the policies were lapsing.
I very much doubt that he can pay the arrears with a view to making a claim. That would be like only buying insurance when you had a claim to make!
If he has had correspondence about the arrears of premiums and then a final "lapse" letter, he has no chance, I'm afraid.Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0 -
The sad thing is he has just passed, with both mortgage and secured loan still in place. Can you offer any advice?0

28 days is the norm to be able to reinstate a policy without a declaration of health. After 28 days the policy can only be restarted if the insurer allows it and a declaration of health is completed.
Unfortunately, it reads as if its well past the 28 days.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only.
