MOT Con at Nationwide Autos
Comments

Just as an addition, I took my car to Nationwide Autos for its halfprice MOT and it also failed.... people at my wife's work have had similar results and have taken their cars elsewhere for a second opinion and second MOT only for it to pass. I've booked mine in at a local garage to see what happens, and have cancelled my wife's MOT which was booked at National Autos for next week.0

I'd get trading standards involved with this. Seems a widespread thing which doesn't surprise me. Non compliance with the Road Traffic Act and all that...0

Contact the Area Manager at your local VOSA office. The address is shown on the Fees and Appeals poster displayed at your MOT test station or you can ring VOSA on 0300 123 9000.
What's more, by doing this correctly, not only will you be alerting the appropriate authority about any irregularities at an MOT station, but also you'll get your re-test fee refunded if your appeal is successful & the vehicle passes "Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
If an offer sounds too good to be true, then it usually is.
You must understand that if a company is offering 1/2 price MOTs, they are not doing it out of Christmas goodwill.
These offers are purely to attract (if you will forgive the expression) gullible customers. The idea is to get customers in and make money on the repairs. I'd bet that few cars pass their MOT first time at such places.
Caveat emptor
Well I booked my car in for an MOT at my local Ford dealership for a £29 offer. It passed no problems.
So it's not universally a dishonest ploy.0 -
I always pay the full price for my MOT.
Local garage, it'll pass if it should, it'll fail on the bits that aren't right.
Well worth a few quid extra.0 -
I had my car MOT'd at Nationwide in Beckenham last September and it passed no problem so I don't think it's fair to tar them all with the same brush. Mind you I asked how much to replace a clutch and was quoted £600 + VAT so decided to go elsewhere!I must stop procrastinating, I must stop procrastinating! promise I'll stop tomorrow OK:D

To be fair the independent was trying to give an honest opinion and only said the brakes dint need changing after examining the car. That was the second garage(Kwick Fit) as well to confirm the brakes were fine.
I did ring VOSA to find out the appeal process but now that I've have my car pass the MOT else where would mean I'd gain nothing from getting the origiinal decision changed.
Every official complaint helps so I would kick up a stink.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

One does wonder what you have to do to get "AA" approved status !Any posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as (financial) advice.0

why did you buy new brakes if they were fine, then take them to a third garage in as many weeks to get them fitted?
or was this just cheapest way to get your mot0
