Help to make chocolate crunchies please

Hope someone here can help me out.
It is my daughter’s birthday this weekend. Money is a bit short so I'm trying to make most of the cakes and stuff home made. I saw a recepie here that I think will go down a treat but there are no measurements.

chocolate crunchies - simply melt butter, golden syrup and cocoa powder together and then stir in cornflakes. Spoon into cake cases and leave to cool. About 3 mins

Can anyone here help me on how to do these please.

  • sooo easy this is!!! Another way is to just melt a load of chocolate and stir in cornflakes or rice krispies. I personally would do it by sight, I'm terrible like this! Just keep going til it looks/tastes all right!! Just remember to add slowly as you can always add but not take out!

This is the same way we make them - a couple of big bars of value chocolate from tesco, melt it over pan of hot water and stir in cornflakes or rice krispies til they are all coated -chill in fridge and voila!!

I make these by melting the syrup, butter and cocoa in a pan [should come out a dark brown] and then stir in handfuls of cornflakes. Spoon into cake cases and leave 10-15 mins to cool and set. Great when small people bring home letters asking for cakes for school for the next day:eek:

I think it was your recipe I found in a link for school fete. :) I got all the items at home to make it, but I never been good at guessing. Do you have a vague idea at all how much you might use?

The others suggestions was good as well to just melt bars of value chocolate but then I got to go out again to buy some...

I think it's about 2-3 oz butter and then I open the syrup tin and literally pour it in and then tip it back. Cocoa maybe 3tbsp? It's all rather rough I'm afraid and a rather unsophisticated wiggle and shake approach but I work on the premise that you can always lob a bit more in and heavens forbid should you end up with just too much choc sauce it's absolutely gorgeous poured over vanilla icecream[ there you are...just the excuse....erm I mean justification everyone was looking for to make Black Saturn's yummy looking icecream recipe]
OK I'm off to bother people on the other boards and leave you lot in peace:laugh:

Thank you for taking your time, I will go and experiment out in the kitchen with yours and welshmums suggestions.
I'm planning to make BS icecream tomorrow so you are right, if I get any chocolate sauce over.... :D

Another similar thing is to melt some chocolate and put crushed up shredded wheat in it. Put it into cake cases and top with a couple of yogurt raisins. A healthy birds nest cake! :D

Mars bar cake is a particular favourite in this house. For each normal size Mars bar melt with 1 oz of butter ( I use 5 for a big tin) Take off the heat, add as many rice krispies as it will take and leave to set in a baking tin.For true decadence add melted choc to the top when it's set!
